..........using the old 3-1 rule. Say I am flying at FL380 and I need to descend to 8000 feet, then drop the zeros, 38-8=30, then 3 X 30=90. So I would start the descent at 90 miles out. ............

It's indeed nice Sandy to keep a bit busy this way, I also kinda like to keep up ahead with what the aircraft is doing.
Another one of the reasons that the 727 and 732 are amongst my favourites too for short and busy hops
