FS9 pln file

I am trying to increase the realism of my FS9 experience, so I have downloaded the flight plan from Simroutes from KJFK to EHAM. I tried the old tried-and-true move the red line on the FS9 GPS, but it's really cumbersome. I read in the helps for FS9 that you can edit the pln file and I did so, following their example. I can't get the new pln to load. I have included my pln. Any ideas?

I can't tell you exactly what's wrong with your flight plan here. Attached you will find almost the same flight plan which loads in my FS9.
The question I have now is: Do you really want to fly this route? Do you really think it might be realistic? I think in real life a dispatcher – and they do the routing nowadays – would be fired if he would let an aircraft fly this routing. One reason is the distance, it is twice as long as the great circle, because it leads via the Caribbean. And the second reason is, it uses a one-way airway. If you ask me now, if this routing is realistic, I have to say: NO! Absolutely not. :(

I have three files attached: TCA0 - KJFK to EHAM.txt is the usable flight plan file, you just have to rename it to .pln
TCA0000_326OFP.txt is the flight plan created with Flight Operation Center taking your routing.
MAP.pdf is the routing displayed in NAT-PLOT

Nevertheless enjoy the flights...:)

Thanks for the followup. What did you create your flight plan with? I agree that the great circle routing is more realistic, but I accepted the simroute routing.

Hi JC.

There are probably a good bunch of sources available for flight planning, freeware and payware.
Route planning itself could be done with Routefinder (http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/) or Flightaware (http://flightaware.com/). But then you still need a good program for creating those routes.
And now I can only talk for myself!
For creating flights and routings I use the payware program Flight Operation Center (http://www.danur.com/). To me this program is one of the best available today and regularly updated - but you still need new Nav-data cycles if you want to stay updated - but it not really necessary to keep updated that often. I regularly update the Nav-data app. once a year. What I only use the whole year is the weather data subscription. This is rather important if you want to fly in real weather environment. It is also capable of calculating everything you need for a flight regarding the aircraft.

The best IFR planner I've seen so far is FSBuild 2.
Well worth the money, generates plans for FS (FS9 and FSX) as well as most popular addons.

For VFR, I usually use the built-in planner and modify by hand using map coordinates taken from charts by adding or modifying waypoints.
