Engine Sound Problem

Has anyone experienced a problem where you lose engine sound on
piston aircraft, but not jets?

I've checked all FS sound settings, audio card settings etc. The
piston engine sounds are in the sound folder and play fine using any
audio player.

Not sure how relevent it might be Mike, but I lost all ATC contact in Radar Contact. All other sounds played fine in FS, ATC played fine in windows madia player.
Turned out that some audio codecs were corrupted and needed reinstalling. I'll post a link to the guide later today.

I would have thought that the same codec would be used to play the piston engine sounds as the one to play the jet engine sounds. They are both WMV files.

We're going to try your suggestion regardless. You never know with FS.
