Sad but true, MS closed down ACES Studio and laid off all but six of its members. You can read more at Simflight ; Avsim ; Flightsim & at Phil Taylor's blog. You can also join the Facebook Group at Simflight.com

I read the bad news yesterday , all of them but did not want to be the one spreading them here. :)
With the market potential FS has, I should not be surprised if some investors' group or other buys ACES up quickly. Meanwhile, let's hang on and make do with what we have. Cheers Karl

So, let´s migrate to FlightGear!
If someone doesn´t know FG: http://www.flightgear.org Just kidding..

I have given that option some serious thought - Flightgear is not bad at all (its running on my other PC) , however , the flight dynamics of most a/c types I have seen leave much to be desired - the terrain quality can generally match with FS9, navaids seem to be correct, the painting jobs are imo easier, since the sim does take png and rgb (bmp) graphics. Flightgear is mostly written in C (core) as well as a truckload of xml, which does make it very fast but will make individual scenery design and a/c development somewhat of a challenge.
So. for the time being let's soldier on in FS9 and FS9.5 (aka FSX) :) Cheers Karl TCA_tech Wrote:I read the bad news yesterday , all of them but did not want to be the one spreading them here. :)

Using FG I have a feeling that it´s not a totally finished product but as long years goes, they are getting close.
It´s kind of ironic MS halted the FS development and then we have only X-Plane (payware) and FlightGear alive...

In my view it is more sad for all the people who bought FSX hoping for some serious improvements. As it transpires M$ never really developed the DirectX10 engine fully, that's why I call FSX FS9.5 because in the back FSX still operates with DX9.0c
As to flightgear - yes - it would need plenty of work with flight dynamics to get a realistic feeling there, and also a lot of GUI work - not everyone likes to go deep into xml just to change a few loading or fuel figures.
