I always felt that FS2004 was great and I prefered it over FSX. However, after I upgraded to a new PC which runs FSX extremely well and overcame the initial problem of the differences/new features of FSX, I use FSX most of the time. I only use FS9 if the scenery area is better or if I want to use a specific aircraft. The improved graphics are by themselves enough of a reason to opt for FSX over FS9.

I have both versions but invariably use FS9. I prefer FSX, it runs OK on my rig with default scenery, but any half decent add-on scenery causes stuttering.
It surprised me that max AI traffic made little difference to FPS

I have somewhat a high end system but FSX is a pain even with
all the tweeks. My FS9 file size is up to 27.8 GB so system don't
fail me now. P.S. Anybody have a simple way to back up this
file in case my system goes to "Blueville"?

My backup method of choice is to buy a small HDD, install it as a slave, copy everything over, rip it out again, and keep it 'somewhere safe'

I used FS9 for a few months after FSX release and then with a couple really great scenery addons I found myself using FSX more. Now I'm using FSX exclusively and loving it. Fabulous scenery, fabulous planes and great step up from FS9, BUT, it does take a good pc to do the job. If FS9 runs like a Swiss watch in your machine, that just might be the place to stay until the computer Santa drops a new screamer down your chimney.
